Manifesto
Leicester On The Map is all about citizens using Internet and Social Media to promote the city. Here's how you can get involved:-
- Amplify positive new stories about Leicester via you networks. Look out for positive news stories, events, publications, photographs, statistics, etc, which reflect the best of Leicester. Re-tweet and add links to these stories across all your social networks and remember to add the #LeicesterOnTheMap hash tag.
- Take part in our campaigns to promote Leicester. Look out for potential campaign actions we can all participate in such as votes, petitions and surveys which we can influence to put Leicester in a good light. Contact us first if you have an idea for a potential campaign.
- Grow your own networks on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Flickr, etc, to increase your own influence. Also follow, befriend and link to other LOTM activists on social networks.
- Take great photographs of Leicester and publish them via Flickr, Twitpic, Google Maps, Google Earth, Picasa, TrekEarth, etc. Tag them with #leicester and #LeicesterOnTheMap. The best of your photos added to our Flickr group will be displayed on this website.
- Add content about Leicester to online information resources such as Wikipedia, travel guides, review sites, etc. Consider contacting us to collaborate with other LOTM participants for a more complete and consistent approach to larger resources.
- Add positive Leicester stories to social bookmarking sites such as Digg, StumbleUpon, Reddit, Delicious, etc and share with other LOTM participants
- Challenge negative stories, comments or opinions about Leicester if you feel they are untrue, unjustified or based on misinformation/misconceptions.
- Link to www.leicesteronthemap.org.uk from your website.
- If you have particular skills in public relations, marketing, journalism, photography, web development, social networks or if you are particularly well connected via social networks, blogs or other online groups then we'd love you to join our LOTM Google Group. Contact us with details of what you can offer.
- Think of other promotion ideas, techniques and opportunities and share them with LOTM participants.
...and a few ground rules:-
- No 'dirty laundry' and no moaners please! Leicester isn't perfect, but if there is something about the place you don't like, take your complaint or campaign to the people responsible. LOTM is not a forum for complaints or criticism.
- Please only use LOTM to promote your own interests if your news is *really* good news for Leicester.
- Quality. We want to concentrate on stories and campaigns that really exemplify the qualities and uniqueness of Leicester rather than parochial happenings.
You're ready to be an ambassador for your city now - good luck!
